Enter the Spirit Parlour

Artist in residence Philly Hunt who has been based with us 3 months is currently displaying a selection of her work in progress and some of her finished pieces with us. For a chance to meet Philly and find out more we will be hosting an open evening on Wednesday 11th November 6.30 – 9pm.

We are really pleased that Philly will be hosting three free workshops which draw themes from her exhibition. The Talisman Workshops will see participants using mono printing, fabric printing, sewing and painting to create their own personal talisman. It is not essential to attend all workshops as different elements will be explored each week. If you would like to book a free place please do get in touch. Friday 13th, 20th & 27th November 2 – 5pm

Philly’s exhibition Spirit Parlour explores themes of safe spaces and identity

‘Due to the nature of my residency here, having close links with the Kentish Town Health Centre and particularly the art therapy and well-being services, I wanted to conduct an appropriate project.

I like to think of art as armour: deflecting wounds and creating a space within that is that person’s hidey-hole.

It is also well known that art is a mode of self-expression, particularly in the form of clothing and self-decoration.

And so it came about that I invented a fantasy character who runs an imaginary tattoo parlour from a shed.

On another note last week saw the final Moodlab session in which participants finished off their clothing and accessories which were all on the theme of emotions – see above an image of a final piece about stress buildup. For more information about our art therapy programme please take a look at our website.

If writing is more your thing then please do book a place at our Writing For Wellbeing workshop on Wednesday 11th November 6.45 – 8.30pm. This way you can attend a workshop and an exhibition all in one evening!
